Motorcycles and white water duckies are two different activities. But how different are they? Can you get the same thrill? Perhaps each is a different type of thrill to enjoy if you love top-level excitement riding the Tail of the Dragon in the mountains of Western North Carolina and East Tennessee. Let Carolina Outfitters convince you to take a high-action duckie ride down the Nantahala River!
What is the Dragon?
The Tail of the Dragon, also known as Deals Gap, or just the Gap by the locals, is a curvy road just outside of Robbinsville, North Carolina on Highway 129 that connects North Carolina to Tennessee. Motorcycle and sports car aficionados love to ride and drive it. With 318 curves in an 11 mile stretch, it’s challenging and thrilling. Some claim it’s more exciting than any roller coaster they’ve been on. But, have you tried rafting the Nantahala River in duckies–a high action rubber kayak, aka funyak? Give it a try and get an adventure comparable to riding the Dragon on one of the south’s most popular white water rivers, the Nantahala! Carolina Outfitters can book that trip for you!
What is a Duckie?
A duckie is an inflatable kayak that comes in both single and double options. In a duckie, you’re in charge–you are the master of your ride; the boat is your saddle and the paddle is your handlebars. Conquer wave trains as the wind whooshes through your hair like you’re on the downhill side of a twisty roller coaster. The Nantahala River flows swiftly through mostly class II rapids, and the excitement will take your breath as you hurl through the river while getting splashed by cool mountain water. Experience an adrenaline high like a fast ride on a motorcycle. Catch the class III waterfall near the end and feel your stomach drop bottom. What a great way to spend a sweltering summer day before hitting the pavement again on your Harley, Suzuki, Honda, Indian or whatever brand of motorcycle you love.
Are we comparing apples and oranges here? Perhaps, but what’s not to love about both? They have their own sweet taste and goodness to enjoy, just like riding the Dragon and whitewater rafting. Either way you get an adrenaline rush that’ll carry you through the rest of the day–maybe even the week. After riding the dragon, ride on over to Carolina Outfitters and book a duckie for even more fun in the Nantahala Gorge and Great Smoky Mountains.
